Cara and Poppy Delevingne share photo of grandmother Angela posing with a 17-year-old Prince Philip
Cara and Poppy Delevingne have shared a touching picture of their grandmother posing with a 17-year-old Prince Philip in Venice.
The model siblings, who are descended from British aristocracy, took to Instagram today to reveal the black-and-white family photograph of their paternal grandparent Angela Delevingne sitting next to the Duke of Edinburgh, who died at Windsor Castle at the age of 99 on Friday.
While Cara simply shared the image to her Instagram stories, Poppy captioned it: ‘A 17-year-old Prince Philip and my grandmother in Venice, 1938.
‘My cousins remember her saying “That after meeting him, she thought he’d make someone a very good husband one day.” How right she was.’

Sitting beside one another, Angela and a young Prince Philip strike similar poses – with their content faces leaning against their hands – while enjoying a trip to a Venice beach.
The candid image was taken by Angela’s husband, Edward Dudley Delevingne.

Who was Angela Delevingne?
Born Angela Margo Hamar Greenwood, Mrs Delevingne was the first of four children born to the 1st Viscount Greenwood and his wife, Margery Spencer.
She was born at her parents’ home in Onslow Gardens, South Kensington.
Her family was well-connected. Lord Greenwood’s sister was married to Leo Amery, the politician, and Angela’s maternal aunt was the stepmother of Lord Mountbatten’s wife Edwina. Angela’s sister married the son of the celebrated artist Philip de László.
Angela was educated at Queen’s Gate school in South Kensington, and St Monica’s, Walton Heath. When she was 15 she was sent to a finishing school in Florence.
She married Edward Dudley Delevingne in 1937, and the pair, who had four children were together for 37 years until his death in 1974.

Born in 1912 in South Kensington, she was the daughter of Canadian-born British lawyer and politician Sir Hamar Greenwood and his wife, Margery Spencer.

Angela’s son Charles was a former debs’ delight. He is handsome, perma-tanned and often described as a man-about-town.
Charles made his money in property, much of it in partnership with the late Irish charmer Ned Ryan, a barrow boy who became Princess Margaret’s ‘walker’ and confidant.
He sold the family’s Grade II-listed house in Belgravia for £10.5 million — a price unmatched by any of his neighbours.
Meanwhile Cara’s mother, Pandora, is one of the Duchess of York’s best buddies and her grandmother was a lady-in-waiting for Princess Margaret.
Even though she doesn’t need the money, Pandora has worked as a VIP stylist at Selfridges — where her value lies in her ex-directory address book. The store relies on her to bring in rich customers with good taste (many her friends) to be dressed in luxury brands.
Her list of contacts is stellar and there is talk that she helps the Duchess of Cambridge, among others, to pick clothes. Pandora is posh in her own right. She is the daughter of Sir Jocelyn Stevens, best known for his time as chairman of English Heritage.

Her mother is Stevens’s first wife, Janie Sheffield, who was Princess Margaret’s lady-in-waiting. She and Sir Jocelyn were a key part of Margaret’s Mustique set. After the marriage ended in 1979, Sir Jocelyn Stevens embarked on a long romance with philanthropist Dame Vivien Duffield, whose father left her a £45 million fortune.
In 2005 they split, and Sir Jocelyn — nicknamed ‘the Piranha’ for his ferocious temper — went on to marry society beauty Emma Cheape, then 54 and 22 years his junior.
In 2012, Peter York, the author and social commentator, said of the Delevingne sisters: ‘There are always girls who are slender, blonde and posh and fall into modelling, such as Jodie Kidd or Jacquetta Wheeler.
‘But in the case of the Delevingnes, there are three of them, which is all the more attention-catching.’

The sisters were expensively schooled. First at Frances Holland School for Girls near Sloane Square, where they stood out for being particularly skinny, leggy and gorgeous even in a school full of skinny, leggy and gorgeous girls.
Poppy and Cara went to the progressive boarding school Bedales, whereas their elder sister Chloe joined the sixth form of the Buckinghamshire boarding school Stowe.
She dated fellow Stowe ex-pupil Louis Buckworth while she gained a degree in biomedical sciences from University College London.
They were married in 2008 at St Paul’s Cathedral and their guests included Spice Girl Geri Halliwell, Joan Collins, Sarah Ferguson and her daughters Beatrice and Eugenie. Only 17 months later the marriage was over. Chloe fell for Ed Grant, once her husband’s best friend.

The photograph was shared days after the Queen announced her husband Prince Philip’s death on Friday.
The Royal Family said in a statement: ‘It is with deep sorrow that Her Majesty The Queen announces the death of her beloved husband, His Royal Highness The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.
‘His Royal Highness passed away peacefully this morning at Windsor Castle. Further announcements will made in due course. The Royal Family join with people around the world in mourning his loss’.
Philip’s funeral at St George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle, next Saturday will be like no other, with the Queen and her family wearing face masks and socially distancing as they gather to say their final farewell amid coronavirus restrictions.
Buckingham Palace announced on Saturday that Prince Philip’s ceremonial royal funeral will take place on April 17 at St George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle, and a national minute’s silence will be observed as it begins at 3pm. The funeral service will be broadcast worldwide.
