5 Napkin Burger tries out NoMad location
A new burger joint is the latest entry to NoMad’s new restaurant district.
5 Napkin Burger has signed a lease for a large, roughly 5000 square foot space at 1133 Broadway, Side Dish has learned.
Their signature burger — 10- ounce signature chuck with Gruyere cheese, carmelized onions and rosemary garlic aioli — is still on the menu at Nice Matin on the Upper West Side, where it originated.
That entree became so popular that owners Andy D’Amico and Simon Oren created the 5 Napkin Burger spin-off with partner Robert Guarino.
There’s now a 5 Napkin Burger on the Upper West Side, in Hell’s Kitchen, Union Square, Astoria, Boston and South Beach.
The owners and publicist did not return phone calls.
The Smith, another casual American restaurant chain, will also be opening in NoMad at 1150 Broadway and celebrity chef David Burke will be in the ’hood as well.

Tartinery, a modern French bistro created by Nicolas Dutko, Alicia Rountree and Patrick Derderian, will be opening at Brookfield Place when the space formerly known as the World Financial Center opens next year.
The “fast-casual” dining component is part of the $250 million re-design and renovation of Brookfield Place that will feature 14 chef-driven, casual eateries with great views of New York harbor.
Tartinery, based on the open-faced sandwich concept, known as the tartine, will join an eclectic mix, including Mighty Quinn’s Barbecue, Umami Burger, Num Pang, Sprinkles Cupcakes, Dos Toros, Dig Inn Seasonal Market, Little Muenster, Skinny Pizza and Chop’t Creative Salad Company.
Ed Hogan, Brookfield’s national director of retail leasing, said that the French element will add to the “culinary appeal and diversity available to shoppers, residents, office workers and our 120,000 neighbors.”
Brookfield was represented in house by Jason Morrison as well as by Stephen Plourde of The McDevitt Company.
